BIOGRAPHY

Erin McAfee is a Seattle-based professional flute and piccolo artist hailing from the state of Alabama. Erin began her advanced flute studies with principal flutist of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Lisa Wienhold, in 2013. In her undergraduate studies, Erin studied under Diane Boyd-Schultz, principal flutist of the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra. She has also been featured in various festivals such as the ARIA International Summer Music Academy in 2017 and 2022 (Mt. Holyoke, MA), the Pender Island Flute Retreat in 2018 (Pender Island, Canada), and the Marina Piccinini International Masterclass in 2019 (Miami, FL). Throughout her college career, she experienced the great honor of being selected as a performer for masterclasses with renowned flutists William Bennett, Lorna McGhee, Judith Mendenhall, Bonita Boyd, Donna Shin, and Ransom Wilson, among others. Erin also attended Butler University, where she studied under principal flutist of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Karen Moratz, and former conductor of The President’s Own Marine Band, Michael J. Colburn. Erin has also had the privilege of working as a substitute for the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra in years 2021 and 2022. In 2023, Erin began her graduate studies at the University of Washington under the tutelage of renowned flutist and teacher, Donna Shin. Erin has had much experience playing in orchestras, wind bands, and as a soloist throughout her career, and she has developed immense respect for each of these repertoires.
